Technology of APT: Cluster/Precipitate Searching

Clusters and precipitates are incredibly important in materials. They can be responsible for dramatic improvements in strength for light alloys, steels, and superalloys. They can also cause catastrophic loss of ductility in applications like pressure vessels and provide nucleation points for corrosion.

Atom probe tomography is the only technique that provides nanoscale spatial resolution and composition mapping for features that can contain just a handful of atoms, but in large numbers can dominate mechanical properties. This webinar will explore the techniques for finding clusters and demonstrate one technique in a deliberate, step-by-step manner, pointing out ways to succeed and ways to fail in your research.
